Book your ‘petit pause’ at this self-catering holiday home with pool near Carcassonne in the south of France

A secret paradise in the medieval truffle village of Villeneuve-Minervois, Occitanie, south of France; ‘Les Citronniers’ is an easily accessible, private, fully equipped holiday home from home, infused with the essence of a Mediterranean lifestyle. It has scenic views, and is surrounded by breathtaking landscape, it is quintessentially French. A 2 storied village house that has been sensitively renovated from a ruin.

It features a gourmet kitchen, from where French doors open directly onto a large stone terrace where a traditional table setting invites you to breakfast. There are a further two Mediterranean-style walled gardens bordered by the seasonal river, La Clamoux. The middle garden has a long wooden table for summer dinners or apero with friends. The small herb garden is within reach for that extra ‘je ne sais quoi’.

Adjacent lies the second garden with a large plunge pool, corner sofa and sun loungers. The pool is family friendly and secured with iron gates for those travelling with young children.

For most of the year you are indulged with a cacophony of birdsong. Swallows and swifts ballet on the herb-scented breezes around you. All to the tune of the water running by, and the regular chimes of the clock tower.

There are views of the nearby rustic Montagne Noir with its scented forests and garrigue landscape; the local vineyards and the russet rooftops of the village including the circular “Pigeonnier” of the old chateau. Take a soothing forest walk to kickstart your day.

Villeneuve-Minervois is a medieval French working village, and has all practical amenities within walking distance. It is not all medieval though and a working holiday is entirely possible with high speed internet at the property thanks to recent fibre optic cable installations throughout the old village.

You will find a baker, butcher, vegetable and fruit market, a Spar, pharmacy, post office, cafe, pizzeria, and auberge. A Cave a vin offers wine tasting and the sale of local Minervois wines, local gin, olive oils and a few artisanal souvenirs. Last but not least, our village is renowned for its Truffles and we have a truffle museum and shop from where you can further indulge your culinary interests.

We also have a very helpful Mairie where you can ask for local information.

Here is a place for you to relax and forget modern pressures, to have a 'petit pause'  basking in the embrace of a secret paradise…
